Bump Shoot

We took these a couple weeks ago when Lindsey was 29 weeks pregnant. It was a weeknight after work and we went to the field near our house where we did bump pictures with Avery. We were hoping to get some more cute photos with Avery in them, but he was tuckered out and uncooperative. We'll have to try again earlier in the day.

First Post for 2010

With March quickly approaching we'd better get our first blog entry for 2010 out of the way. I guess we've been busy, though not sure with what. I do remember painting the baby's nursery - oh by the way did we mention "it's a boy?" The last time around we posted the sex the day of the ultrasound. Our bad.

Lindsey continues to have a good pregnancy, although Avery doesn't let her take afternoon naps. All the aches and pains have been a bit more noticeable than what Lindsey recalls from last time, but it's going by much faster the second time around.

Avery is changing all the time. His vocabulary exploded at some point, and we now have full blown conversations with him. He also has a great memory and frequently changes the subject to discuss events that happened in the past. He's fun to talk to.

Christmas in Texas

We had a great Christmas in Texas this year. It was the first time the three cousins got to spend the holiday together, and having all the kids under one roof made the season especially fun. We enjoyed a lot of good meals and way too much dessert together. Here are some pictures of the mayhem.

We took Avery back to the Cougar Mountain Zoo to see Santa and the reindeer again. This year we didn't have snow so it wasn't quite as winter wonderlandy. Though we did spend more time exploring the zoo and seeing some of the other animals.

This year Avery thought Santa was alright, but still wouldn't sit on his lap.

Maui 2009

We're back from our annual trip to Maui. This year it was just us and my sister (nanny). We had great weather this year and spent the vast majority of our time at the pirate ship pool or at the beach. I'd like to point out some highlights from our trip, but really, we didn't do much besides lay around in the sun and eat the occasional meal. We did really enjoy having Auntie Ashleigh along and getting to spend lots of quality time with her.

Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving at Nana and Grandpa's house in Vancouver. Old Nana was also at Thanksgiving dinner this year which, was a special treat. While she has been out to visit many times over the years, I can't recall a time when she was here for the holidays.

On Black Friday we celebrated Christmas since we'll be in Texas this year. Avery got a remote control car from Nana and Grandpa which was a hit.

Avery did eventually get a turn driving.

It's been pretty rainy here lately, so we've had to stay inside more than we'd like. Because we're traveling in December, we put up the Christmas decorations early. Our neighbors probably think we're hardcore since the tree has been lit up in front of the window for a week and a half already.

We went down to Vancouver last weekend to celebrate Nana's birthday. Old Nana is still in town from New Zealand so we got to see her too. We went to Edgefield for a birthday dinner. The food and beer were great. Lindsey and I also spent an afternoon shopping in Portland while Avery stayed home and played.

Halloween

We had a great Halloween, by far the most fun yet. We carved pumpkins in the morning (there were even power tools involved). After Avery's nap (which he never fell asleep for), we went to trick-or-truck at the Maple Valley community center. It was fun as always, but Avery didn't want to get in the trucks. Then tonight we took Avery out early, and he managed to fill his little bag (and daddy's pockets). Once he was all tuckered out he came back home and handed some candy out. I think was his favorite part.

We took Avery to Thomasson Farms this week to choose some pumpkins. He was a little crabby and didn't really want his picture taken, but we managed to get a few shots.

We went to the OB office this week. It turned out the doctor was at the hospital delivering a baby, so we just met with the nurses briefly. They did a quick ultrasound so we could see our baby. It was snoozing away and sucking it's thumb. Seeing our baby was great and made everything seem much more real. It's hard to believe next week Lindsey will already be in the 2nd trimester.

Snoqualmie Train Museum

Last weekend Avery and I had a boys day at the Snoqualmie Train Museum. Avery is really into trains. He's has a big collection of Thomas the Train that Mommy found on craigslist. So I think going for a ride on a real train was quite an experience for him. First we went up to North Bend, and then the train goes back down the same track to Snoqualmie falls.

Baby King 2.0

We've got great news! We're expecting our second child in early May. Lindsey presented me with the same baby shoes that appeared when she told me we were expecting Avery. We couldn't be happier.

Franklin Falls

Today we headed for the Iron Horse trail and the Snoqualmie Tunnel for a hike. The tunnel is 2.3 miles in the dark, and was the main reason we were going. Unfortunately, we found out the tunnel was closed in January because of falling debris. They're still waiting for funding to complete the repairs. So, we drove back across the summit and went to Franklin Falls instead. This turned out to be a great hike for a 2 year old. Avery hiked the full mile to the falls over roots, rocks, and logs. The falls themselves were crowded, and the sense of wilderness was spoiled by I-90 which hums in the background. After a ride down the trail in the backpack, Avery fell asleep within ten minutes of getting in the car.
